Zola 7 gets a surprise birthday from Zizi Kodwa

Zizi Kodwa helping Zola to cut his cake

For years, he helped ordinary South Africans realise their dreams and empowered many with his TV show, Zola 7. The philanthropist, musician and TV presenter went missing in action for years but it's clear the icon has not been forgotten. On Monday as he celebrated his 46th birthday, Bonginkosi Dlamini, popularly known as Zola 7, was surprised by Zizi Kodwa, newly appointed Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture with a birthday party.  Business people, music industry peers presented the musician, actor, writer and TV presenter with a birthday cake at a hastily organised party in one of Joburg's trendiest hotels in Sandton.

HIS CONTRIBUTION APPRECIATED

Kodwa said that his department appreciated Zola 7's talent and contribution to the social development of the country. While they were sitting and enjoying themselves later in the day, Zola 7 told the guests that he got a surprise call from number one, referring to President Cyril Ramaphosa. During the conversation on the table, Kodwa asked Zola 7 who had called him earlier. Then Zola 7 replied: "I got a call from number one and I wanted to tell him about Zola 7, then decided I'll do so another day."

BAGGING THE JOB AT THE DEPARTMENT

Last week, Kodwa announced that the kwaito legend will work with the department as a creative sector ambassador. "Bonginkosi Dlamini is South Africa's icon and one of our most talented stars. I met him in Polokwane and he welcomed an invitation to work with us as one of the creative sector ambassadors. I look forward to a great working relationship with Zola 7," Kodwa said, adding that Zola remains an inspiration and that working with him as a department  presents a rare opportunity.
