A few weeks ago whistleblower Patricia Mashale wrote an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa citing how her life was being tried for the second time after exposing corruption within SAPS Free State. It seems that it doesn't rain but pours for Mashale as she appeared in court yesterday after she was charged with crimen injuria. Mashale was charged by Welkom SAPS and she is being accused for spreading lies about SAPS management. Speaking to Zimoja Mashale said that she was charged by Warrant Officer Van Wyk. " I'm being charged criminally by warrant officer Johan Van Wyk from Welkom for crimen injuria. SAPS has turned civil matters into criminal matters, once again misusing state resources and abusing their powers. If anyone feels that I defamed them in any way possible, why do they not sue me?," asked Mashale, who is worried that SAPS management wants to silence her.
THIS WILL END IN TEARS
Mashale further said that she has opened serious cases against SAPS management but nothing has happened. "I have opened serious criminal cases against SAPS management for defeating the ends of justice, corruption, unlawful interception of cellphone, unlawfully seizure of cellphone, misuse of state resources, abuse of powers. The Free State DPP has been sitting with the dockets on his table since August, just ignoring it.The case that I'm attending today is for "spreading false allegations against SAPS. This is going to end in tears,"said Mashale who promised to fight them until the end.
CASE POSTPONED
Mashale's case was postponed to 31 January 2023. "I requested the court to make a submission and requested that the Chief Public Prosecutor and the Senior Public Prosecutor, Mr and Mrs Mahloko (husband and wife) be removed and replaced with prosecutors outside the province. The court granted my submission and removed the entire prosecution team. A new magistrate and prosecution team from another province will be appointed," she said. Free State NPA Spokesperson Phaladi Shuping confirmed that Mashale appeared in court.
"She appeared in Bloemfontein Magistrates Court and the case was postponed to 31 January 2023. She is facing two charges of Contravention of the protection order and released on warning," said Shuping.
