SENZO MEYIWA TRIAL
|
May 05, 2023

What Mthokozisi Twala told the court, is not exactly what was in the three statements he gave police

Senzo Meyiwa was killed at his girlfriend's house in 2014 and almost ten years later no one is behind bars for his murder

Holes were poked in Mthokozisi Twala's testimony when it was compared to the statements he made in 2014 after Bafana Bafana goalie Senzo Meyiwa was killed.Twala was giving his testimony at the Pretoria High Court where five men accused of Meyiwa's death are standing for trial.

DISCREPANCIES

Before Twala completed giving his evidence of what unfolded that unfateful night, state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi pointed out discrepancies in three different statements that were made to the police. In one of the statements Twala detailed how Chicco Twala's son, Longwe who at the time was Zandi Khumalo's boyfriend tried to fight the intruder who had the gun."Then Zandi's boyfriend let go of the firearm, which was still in the suspect's hand. Zandi's boyfriend went towards the first person that was in the house, pushed him and they went out."

NETFLIX

Once again the issue of the Netflix documentary, that was filmed detailing Meyiwa's death, came up. The subject was first introduced when Tumelo Madlala who was part of the doccie took the witness stand. Madlala's friendship with Meyiwa was questioned. Madlala was part of the doccie and charged Netflix extra money for pictures of him with Meyiwa. When the court asked him how much he was paid he claimed he had forgotten. On the other hand Twala refused to be part of the documentary, but admitted that he gave them pictures he had of Meyiwa for free. He said the team insisted he shoots with them until he had to get lawyers involved. " I sent my legal representatives to speak to them and then my legal representatives informed them not to speak to me again, not to even try to convince me,' Twala said. Meyiwa was gunned down in 2014 at his Kelly Khumalo's home in Vosloorus and the two were dating at the time. The accused Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are charged with premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition. They have all pleaded not guilty. The trial continues today.
