Tributes have been pouring in for the late fashion designer Reginald Molamu and founder of Reggiestar. The 42-year-old, popularly known as Reggie died at his home in Limpopo following a long illness. Reggie broke into the world of South African haute couture about 15 years ago when he founded RyKay with his former partner, Paledi Segapo. RyKay folded after the two broke up amid accusations and counter-accusations of emotional abuse.
During their split, Reggie claimed that his relationship with Paledi was toxic and there were too many differences and conflicts between them. Paledi, on the other hand, contended that their breakup was mutual.
HE DRESSED CELEBS
Despite the fact that Reggie did not have formal fashion design training, he made many headways in the fashion space. An interior design graduate who obtained his diploma from the University of Johannesburg, Reggie used his little knowledge about fashion to enter the fashion space. His love for fashion was inspired by his grandmother, who was a seamstress. His line dressed many celebrities, including Uyanda Mbuli, the late Kuli Roberts and Sonia Booth, among others. His label also showcased at the SA Fashion week.
CELEBS PAY THEIR RESPECTS
Uyanda Mbuli described him as a humble soul. "Reggie was a sweet, kind and polite soul. He was an extremely talented fashion designer. He loved fashion and always made sure he put his best fashion foot forward with each tailored garment he made. He will be dearly missed.' Publicist Simphiwe Majola said the fashion industry has lost a giant. "He is pioneer and a maverick. it is a huge loss for the fashion industry may his beautiful soul rest in peace,' he added.
Sonia Sedibe remembers his rare talent. "He was always ahead of his time, it is indeed a huge loss in the industry "
