Terry Pheto has been implicated in yet another lottery scandal. Terry together with former National Lottery COO Phillemon Letwaba, his wife and others allegedly paid money meant for youth development in their business accounts. The actress allegedly spent the money on her lavish lifestyle of appearing as a successful actress. Terry is one of the local celebrities who were fingered in the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) fraud. Kwaito legend Arthur Mafokate, TV personality Carol Bouwer and Tsotsi star Presley Chweneyagae were fingered as some of the people who benefitted illegally from the NLC.
IMPLICATED IN ANOTHER NLC FRAUD
According to GroundUp, Terry illegally received a R1 million from the money meant to host a youth awards ceremony. The money, which was from a R10 million grant, was paid to Sunguti Projects, of which Terry Pheto, the actress known for her role in Tsotsi and The Bold and the Beautiful is the sole director. The R10 million grant was paid to a non-profit company which had nothing to do with the youth awards event. The event was instead funded by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA)never happened and money was from a R10 million grant paid to a non-profit company to host a youth awards ceremony and did not spend a cent on the event. Pheto also received millions from the recipient of an unrelated grant to help build her R4 million luxury home in Bryanston, Johannesburg. The house, which was paid for in cash, was frozen and put on auction by the Special Tribunal but failed to attract any buyers when it came up for auction earlier this month.
?SPENDING MONEY ON LAVISH LIFESTYLE
The actress is now a full on tsotsi as alleged in various court documents and forensic investigations. Through a wide connection with former top management at the Lottery Board, Pheto saw the public funds as her pot of honey. It seems the former management, her co-conspirators and herself created fictitious business plans and production plans for youth empowerment events only to spend the money on new lavish homes and luxury vehicles as seen on their social media pages. As the law moves slowly to protect the public from these tsotsis, what is clear is that there should be criminal charges pursued against all those who abused the lottery public funds.
