Shekhinah dragged to court

Shekhinah is in deep trouble after allegedly failing to deliver on work that was paid for in advance

She owes R100 000 for not showing up for a booking in 2019 and in legal fees.  According to a close friend of the annual Rusty Rocks LoversFest, singer and songwriter Shekhinah Donnell was booked to perform at the concert in 2019 but failed to meet contractual obligations and therefore was cancelled. "This girl was asked to record a short video and share a poster of the festival on her social media platforms, but she failed to do so. This is after she was paid R75 000 upfront for the booking,' the source says."Now, she is stuck in this predicament. I'm sure, she spent the money a long time ago.'  The insider says that after numerous attempts to get her to perform at another one of the organiser's events to make up for the loss, her team was "dilly-dallying.'  "She has not been cooperative at all. In two years, my boss asked her to come and perform at one of his events to avoid a refund, but she has failed to do so. When he asks for a refund, she becomes sour and rude, whereas she is the one in the wrong,' the source adds. "He has literally been in talks to reach a consensus with her management for the past two years. Ithink he got tired and decided to take legal action.' She adds.

BREACH OF CONTRACT

After being in breach of the contract, Shekhinah was cancelled by the organisers and replaced with Nomfundo Moh, who is said to have been "easy to work with.' "She was lovely, her team was cooperative and very helpful. They were very professional, and they know what it means to build solid relationships.' In a letter of demand sent to Shekinah in February 2020 and available to Zimoja, the Questions singer was instructed by the organiser's legal team to make a refund payment or face legal action. In the letter of demand, the organiser's legal team says,"You were required to provide timeously from the date of signing of the agreement to our clients and marketing purposes a video of yourself confirming your participation to the arranged event,' the document reads. "In breach of the said agreement, you delayed in providing the above mentioned video timeously in that which has affected our clients' marketing strategies. In addition to the above, your conduct has prejudiced our client to a greater extent leaving him with no choice but to cancel your attendance and incurred further unnecessary costs in recreating the event schedule.'

WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY

Shekhinah was then given the banking details of the organisers to make a refund which she has failed to do. Zimoja has reached out to Rusty Rocks organisers who did not wish to comment on the matter. "We do not involve media in our behind-the-scenes activities. This matter is now with the court, and we do not wish to comment further.' Shekhinah's booking agent, known as Nokwanda, was not available for comment after the singer referred all queries to her management team.
