Same old promises at the State of the Nation Address tonight?

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the SONA tonight

President Cyril Ramaphosa faces a huge task tonight when he delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) and that is to win the hearts of South Africans as many have lost faith in administration with loadshedding, corruption and unemployment being the biggest things that are make him seem like an incompetent leader.

NO LOADSHEDDING

Secretary to Parliament Xolile George there will be no loadshedding to accommodate SONA. "Part of our engagement with the City of Cape Town, in collaboration with Eskom, is that there have been measures that have been taken to ensure there is no load shedding that will impact the delivery of SONA, including related precincts. That work is ongoing, including alternative measures to mitigate the likelihood of load shedding impacting the delivery on the SONA," George said. He further announced that R8 million had been budgeted for this year's SONA.

EXPECTATIONS

Ramaphosa is expected to set out governments key policy objectives and deliverables for the year ahead, flag challenges and outline interventions to unlock our nation's potential. Ramaphosa is also expected to highlight what had been achieved since his last address in 2022.He will also reflect on the progress made in implementing the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (ERRP).

On Tuesday NATJOINTS (National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure)spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said, work had already begun to create a safe environment.NATJOINTS announced that measures had been taken to ensure a safe of SONA and calling for the cooperation of the public, including those who will be in attendance as well as spectators. "Any aimed at disrupting Sona or intentionally contravening the law will be dealt with accordingly within the ambit of the law," he said.
