She was always serving sexiness and seductiveness. But now all grown up, a mother, entrepreneur and a healer. Former Coca Cola Pop Stars sensation Letang Tlome is a far cry from the teenager who used to show off her sexy moves on stage with provocative outfits. Calm and collected are some of the words one can use to describe the break away star.
A JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY
Letang is no longer into pop and has grown both personally and musically. "I have grown bathong!' she says. Although she took some years off from the limelight, Letang says she been doing some personal growing and learning. She says after winning Coca Cola Pop Stars somehow fame became overwhelming and she had to embark on a journey of self discovery. " A lot wasn't making sense in my life and I had to dig deep inside. I was feeling empty and incomplete "
MOTHERHOOD IS A BLESSING
But one of the things Letang is grateful for and credits for changing her life for the better is, motherhood. The mother of one says being a mother has been both beautiful and challenging. She also credits her daughter who taught her many Lessons including how to be grateful and content. "Motherhood has taught me to think of someone either than myself, to love unconditionally, be willing to be tested and learn in the process' She says seeing her beautiful daughter grow and blossom into a beautiful woman is magical. She acknowledges that it is not a walk in the park. "I am going with the flow since parenting has no manual. We pick up from what we've been taught by our own parents growing up and infuse it with our own experiences and gut feeling,' she adds.
ACCEPTING HER TRUE CALLING
Accepting her calling as a traditional healer was not easy for her. it was a bumpy ride that came with shame and frustration because she had no idea she had a greater calling than just music. "My spiritual journey has been the hardest. I laugh at myself just thinking back how I used to tell my mother 'I'd rather die than become a traditional healer' .But today she takes pride being called gogo and in helping those who were once lost and confused like her. She adds guiding and ushering people into their spiritual realm is one of the most beautiful and most fulfilling things."The joy one gets from getting a call when someone says 'thank you gogo, ke fodile' (i am healed) and have clarity now . That is when I realise I am chosen for a higher purpose but one has to be emotionally, financially and physically ready in order to embrace this journey fully' she concludes.
HIGH EXPECTATIONS
Like any other star who was once in their peak of their career, cashing in thousands of Rands almost every weekend from gigs, she says fame has its own downfalls such as when you no longer getting any gigs but people's expectations are still high when they see you. "The downfall of fame is pretty much the same for everyone, not getting shows or working in order to make money. She says fame also requires one to have great marketing and financial back up in order to remain relevant. "Also people having high expectations of you because you appear on TV sucks cause it really is a job like any other, the difference is ours is in everybody's eyes. The pressure that comes with expectations from fans or people in general can be ridiculous. You can't even take public transport because you're famous- you become a joke," she says Letang says she's now enjoy living her life away from the glare of the camera. "I love simplicity and just living a quiet life with my family' She says one of the things she enjoys during the festive season is doing absolutely nothing but spending time with her family and friends. "Definitely spending time with my family, cooking up a storm , gaining extra kilos during the festivities with all the junk,' she laughs.
