Since her husband's passing almost a month ago, Babes Wodumo has been performing and attending events in different parts of KwaZulu -Natal. In an unexpected turn of events, the family of Gqom singer, real name Bongekile Simelane, has advised her not to attend her mother-in-law's Zamanguni Gumede 's funeral today as she is still mourning. Gumede passed away in hospital on Sunday.
BARRED FROM ATTENDING THE FUNERAL
A close family friend of the Simelane family says that Babes Wodumo's parents have advised her not to attend her mother-in-law's funeral. "Bathi, she is still mourning,' the source says. "But what confuses me is they allowed her to go to two parties and to drink and all that stuff. But they won't let her bury her mother-in-law because tradition dictates,' he adds. "Babes hasn't been following tradition but because it's Mampintsha's mother's funeral, all protocol must be followed. It's really sad. It's a shame. Why would you not want to bid your mother-in-law farewell?" Another friend says Babes is welcome to attend but her family does not want her to attend. "We all know that is the case, but she is welcome to attend. It would be advised that she attends, to get closure after making peace with her at the funeral. It wouldn't feel right for her to not bid her a farewell.' Babes has been mourning her husband "differently.' She chose to celebrate his life through music. In a recent interview with ZiMoja, her sister Nondumiso said that she wasn't ready for therapy, and that she is mourning the way Mampintsha would have allowed her to.
INDUSTRY FRIENDS VISIT MAMPINTSHA'S SISTER
Mampintsha's close friends visited his sister Pinky and offered their help and offer condolences. DJ Tira, DJSox, and Mondli Ngcobo are among the music industry friends who visited Mampintsha's sister after Zamanguni's passing. Pinky said she was grateful but still feels the double blow. "It's still hard to believe that both my brother and mother are gone, but God will make a way,' she says. "uMa was my pillar of strength. I hope Mandla's friends do not abandon us.' Pinky said.
