Arthur Mafokate's former business partner exposes his shady dealings

Mafokate's shady dealings were exposed by a former business acquintance

The whistleblower who has brought kwaito musician and 999 Music owner, Arthur Mafokate into the spotlight since Friday, is none other than Brian Mokoena. Mokoena worked with Arthur for over 20 years before their relationship went sour about four years ago. Arthur and Mokoena were like family, and when the King of Kwaito had a public spat with AbaShante lead singer and the mother of his child Queen Sesoko, it was Mokoena who was fending off the media from asking too many personal questions.

THE AFFIDAVIT

To show that he knows too many intricate details about Arthur's dealings, Mokoena deposed an affidavit that was seen by ZiMoja on 15 May 2019 to detail how Arthur syphoned the National Lottery Commission (NLC) funds. In the affidavit which may bring Arthur to his knees, Mokoena said the non-profit organisation that was used to syphon the NLC funds, also benefited his "girlfriends" , Chomee and CiCi. "The NLC must properly investigate the South African Development Association as it was for the benefit of Arthur Mafokate. It was used as a lottery bag to prop-up his lifestyle and that of his girlfriends, e.g Chomee and CiCi." In his affidavit, Mokoena went on to say that he and Mafokate registered an NPO with the Department of Social Services in 2012. This organisation was formed with the following people: Arthur Mafokate (Chairperson), Thulisile Jean Madihlaba(Treasurer), Mokoma Rita Mafokate (DSG), Valentine Mamaila and Abigail Sithole, which was "unlawful and illegal." Mokoena was the secretary of the NPO.

ONLY MAFOKATE BENEFITTED

He continues: "Three years ago or so, at the conclusion of the project which was funded by the NLC, SAADA in its book/bank account was left with R6 million. Mafokate transferred this money into one of his business accounts. And in the process cooked theN PO's books with the help of accountant Mr Kevin Naidoo of KVN. "This money was eventually used to buy a guest house called La Villa Rosa in Midrand for one of Arthur's companies" Mokoena also said in all of this; he was kept in the dark and that whenever he wanted to call a board meeting, he was sworn at by Mafokate since he was also under his employ. He says some of the expenses of Mafokate's companies were paid for by SAADA, like public liability insurance, telephone bills and rental of premises from 999 Music/RoadshowMarketing and SAADA. Vehicles bought with the grant were used to ferry his artists under his label, 999 Music, to take them to shows, like his son DJ AJ(Arthur Junior) and Chomee, a fellow band member. "Cameras, printers, laptops and furniture were bought by SAADA. The items eventually ended up in his guest house for the benefit of his company. "As the SG together with board members, we were sidelined in any activities of the NPO," said Mokoena.

NOT A SAINT

He said Arthur hired and fired staff at will, and never gave them contracts when they were hired. Mrs B.Thwala was hired as an artist without doing any auditions, said Mokoena. Mrs B.Thwala's stage name was CiCi. Later, CiCi who dated Mafokate accused him of battering her and the King of Kwaito was charged with assault with grievous bodily harm after he allegedly dragged her with his car.

MOKOENA RISKS IT ALL

On Sunday afternoon, Mokoena wrote in a WhatsApp group called Victory Is Certain: "Afternoon?.I know the other day I said let me that I Shatapu. But unfortunately the circumstances have made me to return. I have received quite a number of messages of support/requests for interviews from as afield as the US. On the other hand some people are concerned about my safety and that of my kids. "And are advising/offering me bodyguards and safe houses. Much as I appreciate these unsolicited offers.Kindly note that I am not gonna accept them. "No bodyguards or hiding for me. My life carries on as normal, for no one owns the power of death or life over me or my kids, God and my ancestors," Brian Mokoena wrote
